VIII. Determine the limit of weekly working and teaching hours

1. The regular weekly working hours and extra-curricular work organised by school of full time teaching staff are 36 hours, including teaching hours and non-teaching hours.
2. The weekly teaching hours for secondary school teachers are 680-900 minutes.
3. The weekly teaching hours for primary school teachers are 760-990 minutes.
4. The weekly teaching hours for teachers of infant education are 680-900 minutes.
5. The weekly teaching hours for teachers of special education are 600-990 minutes.
6. The weekly teaching hours for secondary school teachers of evening courses are 600-720 minutes. The weekly teaching hours for primary school teachers of evening courses are 680-800 minutes.
   

• Decree-law No. 15/96/M stipulated that the weekly teaching hours are 800-1200 minutes.
• The general revised principle is to adequately alleviate teachers’ teaching burden, so as to enhance education quality, as well as to create conditions conducive to teacher professional development. Due to the different characteristics of the operations of the various education levels, therefore teachers’ teaching hours should also be varied.
• In accordance with the present drafting curriculum framework of infant education, the weekly hours of education activity for infant education is 1200–1620 minutes (including teaching activities, leisure activities and nursing activities), among which the upper limit for teaching activities for Years 1 and 2 is 800 minutes, for Year 3 is 900 minutes. Base on this arrangement, and considering the burden of class learning of students of Macao infant education should be alleviated, hence it is stipulated that the weekly teaching hours for teachers of infant education are 680-900 minutes. As chartered class system is usually carried out in infant education, together with the hours of leisure activities and nursing activities, the teachers’ total weekly hours of taking care of students are 1200-1620 minutes.
